UK Prepares to Pay £400 Million Ransom to Iran to Free UK Aid Worker

The British Government is preparing to pay a ransom of over £400 million pounds to the Iranian Regime in order to free a wrongfully jailed British charity worker.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a project manager with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, was sentenced to five years in jail in September 2016 on the bogus charge of attempting to overthrow the Regime and spying for a foreign power.

Dozens of Iranians With Dual Nationality Arrested in Last Two Years

In the past two years, more than 30 people with dual nationality have been arrested by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Most of those were arrested on charges of spying.

The number of people arrested has risen sharply since 2015 – the year when the Iran nuclear deal was signed. It was hoped that as a result of the nuclear agreement, Iran would become more moderate and arrests like these would no longer take place.

Swedish-Iranian Academic Handed Death Sentence in Iran

Ahmadreza Jalali, a Swedish-Iranian scholar has been sentenced to death in Iran. Swedish authorities and Amnesty International are protesting the sentence.

Jalali who has Iranian citizenship, but is a permanent resident of Sweden, is a researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.
