Tunne Kelam: We have a moral obligation to support democratic alternative to Iranian regime

Tunne Kelam, a member of the European Parliament from Estonia, said in a speech last week that it is important to support the Friends of a Free Iran if we are to ever help the people of Iran. He noted that it is one of the oldest groups formed by members of European Parliament and said that for numerous declarations they have had “absolute majority of support for a principled approach to the Iranian regime”.


Maryam Rajavi speaks at Friends of a Free Iran conference

Friends of a Free Iran, an inter-parliamentary group at the European Parliament, invited Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), to speak at a conference about the wave of executions in Iran and EU policy. The conference took place on the 7th December – the day before the World Day of Human Rights. Mrs. Rajavi’s full speech can be read on the NCRI’s website.


Iran: Student Describes Horror of Iran Prison

In an interview with The Express in the United Kingdom, Shabnam Madadzadeh speaks about the terrible abuses she endured during her time in prison in Iran. The 29 year-old computer science student was arrested along with her brother in 2009 on her way to Tehran’s Tarbiat Moalem University. Intelligence officers charged them both for speaking out against the Iranian regime.


Iran: Call for EU to clarify if mass executions will be funded via anti-narcotics programmes

Alexandra Sims for The Independent has reported that Reprieve, a human rights charity has raised concerns about the European Union preparing to fund Iranian anti-narcotics programmes that are responsible for mass executions in Iran.


Dual nationality Iranians jailed in Iran

Hadi Ghaemi, the executive director of the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, has said that an American-Iranian man and his wife was arrested by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in July and have been held in the notorious Evin prison in Tehran. They have been detained without charge and do not have access to a lawyer.
